Dear Friends and Family:

On Saturday, October 4, 2003 and Sunday, June 6, 2004, in an effort to improve the quality of life for thousands of people with leukemia, and other related blood cancers, I completed the Tropical Island Century in Florida and America’s Most Beautiful Bike ride in Lake Tahoe. These 100-mile bicycle rides took place in one day. As part of the Leukemia Society’s Team In Training, I was part of a team of cyclists on a journey of strength and hope. It’s been awhile and I'm ready to go again. This time I will participate in the El Tour De Tucson on Saturday, November 19, 2005. This ride is actually 111 miles and may be my toughest challenge yet due to the additional distance. But in relation to the challenge so many others face on a daily basis, it is nothing in comparison.

So many of you were generous enough to support my efforts in my previous two rides and I am hoping I can count on your support again. This is a battle we must continue to fight until we win. I will once again ride in honor of David Knepper, battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; his father, Jack Knepper, battling leukemia. I will also ride in memory of my cousin, Michael Seagroves, who lost his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma eight and a half years ago. In addition, I will also be riding in memory of Lisa Nielson, who I was riding in honor of in Lake Tahoe, but passed away as I was doing the ride.

On October 20, 2003, just two and a half weeks after my Florida ride, I received an e-mail from a friend asking for prayers for a six year old boy she knew, Eric Schonhoff, who was battling a very rare form of lymphoma called Burkitt's Lymphoma. The message stated that he only had about a week or two left. A week later, I received word that Eric lost his battle with Burkitt's Lymphoma. After that heartbreaking news, I knew I had to continue on the journey.

Won’t you take a moment right now to make out your 100% tax-deductible check to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? Those few seconds you spend now, can mean a lifetime to others who are suffering. If you know of someone affected, by any form of cancer, please let me know so I can add them to my list of heroes…Those few seconds you spend now, can mean a lifetime to others who are suffering.

Please consider joining me on my next journey of hope.

Warmest regards,

Colleen Bates (e-mail: cbates614@yahoo.com)
